So now things are going full force between Ashburn and Alexandria. Although it is a trick to sometimes remember where I need to drive in the morning, it has been workng out really well. Alexandria’s location is great and easy to get to from the beltway and we are already up and running seeing all kinds of exotics.
The new phone number is 703–778-2500.

In the meantime, I am still getting everything I need for my new aquarium. I am waiting for the aquarium stand to come in the mail and then I can start to set up the actual tank. Once the tank is set, I need to fill it with water and let it sit for a couple of days prior to getting my fish. Once it is set, I will post a picture.

In all of my years as an exotic veterinarian, I have never had any practical experience or personal experience with fish. It is one of those things that you really don’t need to learn about on a professional level, unless you want to. I sat through some interesting continuing educationg classes on koi health a few years back, and it was entertaining but that was about it. Well, now that my son is almost three and we have been watching Finding Nemo, I am thinking it may be a good time to set up as small aquarium in the house. I think I would like to start with a freshwater aquarium and I am looking into Glofish, genetically engineered phosphorescing fresh water fish. This process seems like it will be a great educational experience for me to learn about aquariums and fish and I know my son well enjoy his very own tank. But, truthfully, I am very nervous. My friend was generous and gave me an aquarium and quite a bit of the equipment that I will need. She also gave me information on how to setup the tank. But it is daunting since I don’t even know what anything is. I am planning to take a trip to the local aquarium store in the next day or two so I can find out what I need, recommended number of fish, how to clean things properly, etc. I just hope I am not getting in over my head. I also am in the process of trying to find a good aquarium stand. Somethinig sturdy that won’t break if a toddler leans against it and something that won’t allow a cat to attack my fish. I am definintely concerned about how my cats will react. I know that it will be a source of entertainment for them but I have to figure out where to place the aquarium that will prevent fishing expeditions and other mishaps that my cats can think of. My goal is to try and have the entire setup finished by my son’s birthday. That gives me about 5 weeks to get my act in gear. As I make progress, I will document my project and my final result.
